About

Raimond Puts

If there is a thread throughout his working life, it must be his love for metal and mechanism. His technical insight, and attention to detail and beauty, became evident at a very young age, when he built complex structures with his ‘Meccano’ toys.

He would never lose his fascination for metal and mechanism. He became a machine engineer and wanted to know everything about the materials, the form, the function and the reason for all these things. He studied geometry and the laws of physics in order to achieve the most with the least.

Welcome to his world. In the ‘80s, he became fascinated by the construction of geodesic spheres. He made his early models out of cheap materials, like iron and mesh, which he often found on the streets.

Throughout the years, he experimented with various forms and materials to construct the perfect sphere with very minimal resources. In response to the practical problems he encountered in this process, he looked for solutions with infinite patience.

The application of energy-conscious LEDs between two concentric spheres was one of these solutions, which led to a breakthrough in his career in 2009.

In essence, the light piece that was given his name embodies everything its creator stood for: beauty as the result of the harmony between form, function and content, a world where all things are connected.

And light like life itself/light being like life itself
